Web Developer - Drupal Specialist

Know your way around a Drupal CMS? Our Digital Media division is looking for a senior-level Web Developer specializing in Drupal development.

Canada Wide Media connects great people with great content using traditional and new media publishing solutions. We currently seek a full-time, on-site, versatile, hands-on Senior Web Developer to join our growing team, providing leadership and solid Drupal development skill in the evolution of our digital media business.

The right person will contribute to technical planning and development within our network of linked websites and associated digital products, as well as create, maintain and upgrade digital products and sites.

A background in software and Drupal development is necessary for this role, as is an ability to effectively communicate and work with a highly-functioning team in a fast-paced environment.
The right candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of all web development methodologies and technologies including Drupal content management systems, e-commerce solutions, Web 2.0 and social media. Experience in setting up and managing infrastructure including web servers, networks, and databases is also desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day web operations and make improvements to performance of assigned sites and products
  • Serve as project lead for assigned sites and products
  • Work with internal stakeholders to understand and gather product requirements, and plan, develop, release and maintain Drupal-based products including websites and custom modules
  • Create, maintain, install, modify and test modules and themes, and extending our Drupal-based content management system where necessary
  • Design and create custom modules that will integrate into our Drupal 5 based CMS following Drupal’s API; contribute to an upgrade of sites and multi-site architecture to Drupal 6
  • Participate in design of user interface architecture and create, oversee and ensure timely delivery of technical specifications and plans
  • Contribute to an annual strategy and tactical roadmap for the technical development of Canada Wide digital products (including sites, enewsletters, mobile)
  • Collaborate with vendors and contractors to define future capabilities, select new technology, and oversee product development
  • Make recommendations for ongoing improvements to development workflow

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information technology
  • At least 7 years experience with development and coding with progressively increasing responsibilities
  • Rich experience in Drupal 6 and 6 and a broad understanding of content management systems
  • Strong command of/experience in PHP 5, SQL, HTML, XHTML, CSS, Javascript, Apache, SQL Server, XML, AJAX
  • Cross-platform experience, (web, mobile, desktop)
  • User agents and user-interface delivery platform differences (OS/browsers/versions)
  • A structured but pragmatic approach to software development methodologies (waterfall, agile scrum)
  • Requirements definition / design definition / analysis and documentation methods
  • Web standards and web accessibility awareness/understanding (W3C WAI)
  • Demonstrated competency in establishing technology strategy and leading system design for Drupal CMS
  • Demonstrated experience with creating and delivering ecommerce solutions (including knowledge of security requirements)
  • Significant experience with all aspects of software development life cycle including planning, wireframing, specifications, QA/testing, version control, delivery and upgrading
  • Superior communication skills (oral and written) and technical understanding to present complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Detail oriented with ability to assign appropriate importance to events and actions.
  • Strong exposure to other disciplines and technology platforms including:
  • SQL server to a certified level
  • Solution design and architecting
  • Java Frameworks/J2EE/JSR168(Portal/Portlets)
  • Adobe Air, Silverlight, Flash
